Why is this important?
Oral health impacts our ability to speak, eat, and smile and influences self-esteem and attendance at work and school. Oral diseases can cause pain and disability, therefore good oral health is an important part of good overall health.
How is Arkansas doing?
In 2022, 56% of adults had received dental care in the past year, up 1 percentage point from 2012 but below the national rate of 65%. This makes Arkansas 50th in the nation for this indicator, including the 50 states and Washington, D.C. Rates were higher for women (60%) than men (51%). Rates among Blacks, non-Hispanics, Hispanics and Whites were all similar ranging between 56-57%.
Rates varied across Arkansas in 2019, the most recent year for which county comparable data was available, from below 45% in Fulton, Izard and Sharp counties to above 65% in Saline, Perry and Grant counties.
